Welcome!
Karina has asked me to add a few words to her website. My name is Kim Ward, 50yrs old and I have Secondary Progressive MS. I have delved into holistic therapies over the year, trying to avoid drugs most of the time. So gladly put my backing to Karina’s therapies.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. Around 85,000 people in the UK have MS.
MS is the result of damage to Myelin – a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system - myelin is made by cells in the central nervous system called oligodendrocytes. These cells wrap themselves around nerve axons very many times to form a protective myelin sheath. The myelin increases the speed at which nerve signals travel along axons. In MS, myelin is vulnerable to attack from the immune system. When myelin is damaged, this interferes with messages between the brain and other parts of the body. The central nervous system is the collective name for the brain and spinal cord.
For some people, MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission while for others it has a progressive pattern. For everyone, it makes life unpredictable.
People feel they have more control over their health and well-being when they use complementary and alternative medicines. Others may find the 'holistic' approach to treatment appeals, as it may look beyond the physical and take emotional and spiritual issues into account too.
I have had Kinesiology, which checks out food intolerances and your body telling what supplements are needed/or not. A weekly massage would be wonderful, relax the whole body, try and be in a position to lie there continually afterwards instead of getting up to drive home. I have not tried Indian Head Massage or Hot Stone treatment, next on the agenda with Karina and will give you an update. She is to give me weekly massages on legs and feet as they can be in pain and twisted through spasticity. I find the manipulation gets the circulation going and goes some way to returning the foot to its former self.
The carrier oils are nice to put in the bath, leaves a thin film on your body. Wheatbags ideal for those aches and pains on the shoulder or feet, the small ones keep my hands warm on a winters day and therapeutic too for manipulating my hands as spasticity sets in there.
I use incense and candles to create a calming atmosphere as I meditate.
So all in all I am glad I have found Karina, it will make for a great improvement in me.

Kim Ward.
